Pikeville, KY – Bears baseball swept Friday's doubleheader with Campbellsville, walking off a 2-1 victory in game one before capping the day with 6-2 win in game two.
The Bears improve to 12-18 on the season, with a MSC mark of 4-6. Campbellsville drops to 8-17 (2-7 MSC).
Game One: UPIKE 2, Campbellsville 1
The opening game of the series offered a thrilling start to the weekend as the second half of the game was spent in a 1-1 tie.
Jairemy Pulido posted a solid start on the mound, going 4.1 innings, allowing a single run on four hits and struck out three.
Grayson Harris iced the cake and picked up the win, going the final 2.2 innings and holding the Tigers scoreless.
Noah Helton put the Bears on the board early in game one, ripping an RBI single which scored
Tyler Freas who reached on a leadoff walk. The run would be the last until the very end of the contest. Freas put together a great game at the plate, knocking a pair of hits, scoring two runs, and picking up a stolen base.
The seventh inning opened up with a Freas single through the left side as the teams were tied at 1-1.
Eduardo Bello smacked the winning RBI, sending a double to left center field which scored Freas and gave the Bears the 2-1 victory.
Game Two: UPIKE 6, Campbellsville 2
The second half of the double header seemed like a pitching duel through the first three innings as both teams were held scoreless.
Ty Crall started and tossed eight innings, allowing just a pair of runs on nine hits to pick up the win.
Nolan Fernandes pulled the Bears through the final inning, holding off the Tigers as they threatened in the ninth to seal the victory.
Four Bears got involved at the plate, none as successful as
Noah Helton who tagged three hits featuring an RBI, a stolen base, and a run scored.
Tyler Maynard went 1-3 with a pair of runs scored and also added a stolen base. Bello, who walked off in game one, kept the heavy bat and smoked an RBI triple to right center in the seventh which scored
Jared Kirkman.
The fourth inning finally saw the Bears get on the board, aided by a single from Helton and walks by Kirkman and
Demarco Miller. Both Maynard and Helton scored in the inning to put the Bears up 2-0.
The Tigers answered with a pair of runs in the fifth to tie the game until the Bears hung three runs in the seventh frame. Bello's triple, followed by singles from Maynard and Helton gave the Bears a 5-2 lead.
Ryan Sartin and
Cam Revolt walked to open the eighth, followed up by a SAC bunt from
Demarco Miller which scored Sartin and gave the Bears their final run.
