Pikeville, KY – Bears baseball wrapped up the series against Campbellsville Saturday with a 10-5 loss. UPIKE claims the series win 2-1 after sweeping Friday's double-header.
The Bears claim their first MSC series of the season, improving to 12-19 overall and 4-7 in conference play.
Austin Wetherington manned the bump to start game three and went five innings, allowing six runs (5E) on nine hits. The junior dished out a season high five strikeouts in the loss and moves to 2-3 on the season.
Grayson Harris relieved in the sixth and gave an inning of work allowing one run on a hit, followed by
Jacob Hawkins who pitched an out in the seventh.
Sam O'Keefe closed out the game and pitched a solid 2.3 innings, not allowing a single run.
Jared Kirkman was the highlight for the Bears Saturday as he knocked his second home run on the season which was a two-run blast in the ninth. Kirkman also singled in the third, finishing at 2-4 on the day.
Tyler Freas, who has recorded a hit in 13 of the last 15 games, went 1-5 while Helton and Sartin each finished with a single hit.
The Tigers' starter, Tedesco, was lights out on the mound and didn't give up a run until the seventh inning. Campbellsville scored one in both the second and third innings before a grand slam in the fifth gave them a 6-0 lead. The Tigers added four more before the Bears crossed their first in the seventh via an RBI fielder's choice from
Cam Revolt scored
Tyler Maynard.
The eighth inning saw the Bears have a chance at some life, putting three runners on and scoring
Zach Hill (courtesy runner for Bello) on an infield error.
Eduardo Bello crossed on a wild pitch to make it 10-3.
In the final inning,
Jared Kirkman came up big with his homer, Freas also ripped a single but the Bears couldn't close the gap.
Bears baseball returns to Johnnie LeMaster Field on Tuesday, March 29
th for a single nine-inning battle with Alice Lloyd. First pitch between the Bears and Eagles is set for 2:00 PM.
