Midway, KY – The University of Pikeville men's tennis team won their third straight dual match Wednesday afternoon at Midway University, 5-2.
The Bears got off to a great start in doubles play, winning all three matches to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Juan Diego Alzate and
Mirko Dedich won their team-leading seventh doubles match as a team 6-1.
Fernando Proano and
Martin Lorenzo won their second, 7-6 (4), and
Juan Diego Medina and
Valentin Ortiz won their third, 6-4.
UPIKE put the match out of reach early on in singles play as Alzate (6-2, 6-1), Ortiz (6-2, 6-2), and Medina (6-2, 6-2) all won their matches to clinch the dual 4-0. This is Alzate's ninth singles win, Ortiz's sixth, and Medina's second. Lorenzo also won his fifth singles match for the Bears, 6-4, 6-4 to end the day for UPIKE with a 5-2 victory.

The Bears improve their overall record to 5-6 and will return to Mid-South Conference play Saturday when they travel to Campbellsville University for a 3:00 p.m. matchup. The Tigers are receiving votes to be ranked in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll that came out this morning.
