Bears Downed in Double Header at Georgetown

Georgetown, KY – Bears baseball opened an MSC series with Georgetown Sunday, dropping game one 1-0 before falling 9-2 in game two.  

Game one | UPIKE 0 – Georgetown 1 

Jairemy Pulido offered a stellar start in game one, shutting the Tigers out for seven innings to force extras. The Tigers scored the lone run on a walk-off in the bottom of the eighth to win the game on a pair of singles. Pulido allowed seven hits, striking out four and walking two.  

Noah Helton and Cam Revolt accounted for the Bears only hits in the low scoring affair. Helton tagged a single in the top of the opening frame to record his 27th hit of the season. Cam Revolt blooped a single in the second which would be the final hit of the game for the Bears.  

The bottom of the third saw the Tigers threaten for the first time after a single and a fielders choice put a runner in scoring position. Mikey Swails quickly eliminated the threat, gunning down the runner on second to get the second out of the inning.  

The Tigers got another opportunity in the seventh but it was Pulido who alleviated the threat this time, getting the lead runner out at third.  

After a scoreless seven innings the game went to extras, with nothing doing for the Bears in the top of the eighth. Georgetown knocked three singles to score the winning run in walk-off fashion.  

Game two | UPIKE 2 - Georgetown 9 

Ty Crall opened the game for the Bears, going 2.1 innings giving up eight hits and five runs. Crall struck out two before being relieved in the third inning by Nolan Fernandes who would finish the game. Fernandes gave up four runs (3E) and struck out two. 

Four Bears tagged a hit in the contest, led by Tyler Freas who connected for a his team-leading ninth double of the season. Cam Revolt and Ryan Sartin finished 1-3 with an RBI. 

The Bears started game two with hot bats, scoring both runs in the top of the first frame. Freas led off with a base knock, followed by Noah Helton who reached on an error. Sartin sent a single through the left side to score Freas, before Cam Revolt scored Helton with a single in the next at-bat.  

Georgetown put up five runs between the second and third innings to take a 5-2 lead. The Bears threatened in the top of the fifth but left three runners stranded as Georgetown led 7-2 after five complete innings.  

The Bears went hitless the final two innings, Georgetown added a pair of runs in the sixth to secure the 9-2 win. 

UPIKE baseball looks to bounce back tomorrow, April 10th for the final game of the series with Georgetown.
