Portsmouth, OH – After receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches' Poll yesterday afternoon, the University of Pikeville men's tennis team claimed their third sweep of the season, 7-0 at Shawnee State University today. This is their second sweep in Mid-South Conference play as they improve their record to 9-7 overall and finish their MSC schedule at 6-4.
UPIKE jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead, claiming the doubles point after a 6-2 win on court one by
Juan Diego Alzate and
Mirko Dedich broke the tie and gave them the tally. Alzate and Dedich lead the team with 10 victories as a duo this season.
Juan Diego Medina and
Valentin Ortiz claimed their sixth win as a team this year, with a 6-0 victory at No. 3.
The Bears won all six singles matches against Shawnee State, while only surrendering 14 games.
Fernando Proano recorded a clean 6-0, 6-0 sweep on court six for his third singles win of the year.
Dedich (6-2, 6-0) and
Martin Lorenzo (6-0, 6-1) also didn't lose a game during a set as they both won their 10th singles match of the year.
Luis Gayoso won his second match of the season, 6-1, 6-2 on court five over Aiden White. Alzate won at No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-2) for his team-leading 14th win of the season. Medina claimed court three, 6-3, 6-1 for his fifth win of the year.
