Williamsburg, KY – Archery landed 14 podium finishes at the USA Archery Outdoor Regionals on Friday, placing 15 archers on the All-Regional Team. The Bears also had four student-athletes set new program records.
Highlighting the Bears podium finishes were two individuals and three teams that claimed gold medals.
AJ Clements broke a program record in the Recurve event, defeating Cumberlands' Jacob Valentini 6-2 on his way to a gold medal finish and an All-Region Team distinction.
In the women's compound it was
Anna Scarbrough claiming the top medal. Her score of 140 defeated Madison Grimm of Cumberlands, on her way to an All-Region Team selection.
UPIKE's Recurve Mixed Team of
Bella Barrett and
AJ Clements secured gold, defeating Lindsey Wilson's duo 6-2. Also placing first was the women's recurve unit of
Ashlee Welch,
Anastasia McFarland, and
Bella Barrett, who defeated Cumberlands 6-0.
The final gold came by way of
Brooke Fannin,
Sophia Hunziger, and
Kynsley Redmon who totaled 214 in the women's fixed pins event, defeating Cumberlands in the finals.
Second place finishes came by way of
Bella Barrett in the women's recurve,
Jacob Suffridge in the men's barebow, and
Emma Terry in the women's barebow.
Bella Barrett secured a program record mark along with her silver medal.
Three teams notched silver medals in Regional play including the barebow mixed team duo of
Emma Terry and
Jacob Suffridge who defeated Georgetown and Lindsey Wilson before falling to Cumberlands in the finals.
The men's barebow unit of
Kyle Sturgill, Thomas Olson, and
Jacob Suffridge also claimed a silver medal after defeated Union in semifinals. The team narrowly fell to Cumberlands in the finals by a score of 5-4.
The final silver medal came from
Kay Falter,
Allison Collinsworth, and
Emma Terry in the women's barebow. The trio shutout Lindsey Wilson 6-0 in the semifinals, falling 6-2 to Cumberlands in the finals round.
Earning bronze for the Bears was the fixed pins mixed team duo of
Kynsley Redmon and
Kirklin Newsome. The team shot 137 in the semifinals before totaling 139 in the finals round. In compound team play, the men's team of
Daniel Clayton,
Evan Flores, and
Matthew Russell notched third with scores of 220 and 228.
