Saints Sweep Double Header in MSC Regular Season Finale

Crestview Hills, KY – Bears baseball closed the book on the 2022 MSC regular season Saturday afternoon with a pair of losses to Thomas More. The Saints rallied late in game one, scoring five runs in the sixth, going on to win 9-4 before taking game two 14-8.

The Bears drop to 16-30 with a 6-17 mark in conference play ahead of their final regular season finale against (2) Tennessee Wesleyan.

Game one: UPIKE 4 – Thomas More 9

Four made appearances on the mound for the Bears in game one, headed by Jairemy Pulido who went four innings allowing four runs on six hits. Nolan Fernandes relieved after the Saints tied the game in the fifth, shutting out the Saints for an inning. Ratliff gave up the go-ahead run and was charged with the loss.


Eduardo Bello made it five straight games with a hit, going 2-3 with a triple and an RBI. Cam Revolt knocked his fourth home run of the season in the third, clearing the bases with a three RBI shot.
The Bears were in control for first four frames, leading 4-2 until the fifth when Thomas More capitalized on three singles to tie the game at 4-4. A big inning put the nail in the coffin for the Bears in the sixth as the Saints tagged five hits, scoring five runs to go ahead 9-4.

Game two: UPIKE 8 - Thomas More 14

Five arms shared time on the mound for the Bears in game two as Austin Wetherington picked up the loss after a two inning start in which he gave up five runs. AJ Miller stepped in for the third inning and threw three inning and an out, allowing six runs (5E) on five hits. Hunter Heath later offered an inning followed by Jacob Hawkins who closed the game.

DeMarco Miller, Noah Helton, and Tyler Maynard recorded multi-hit games, with Helton and Maynard knocking a couple of runs in. Tyler Freas tied for the most triples in the NAIA this season with his eighth which scored Maynard in the fifth. Bello kept the hot streak alive with a home run in the sixth while Maynard busted his third homer of the season in the eighth.

The Bears didn't scratch a run across until the fourth, falling behind 6-0 before coming to life with a pair of runs in the fourth. Demarco Miller led off with an infield single, stealing second and taking third on error before Helton rocked a double to put the Bears on the board. Maynard later tagged a single to score Helton to make it 6-2 Saints.

Freas' triple scored Jared Kirkman in the fifth as the Bears began to close the gap, shutting out the Saints in the fifth and sixth innings. Thomas More buried the Bears with seven runs in the sixth on five hits to make it 13-4.

Noah Helton clubbed an RBI single in the seventh, and Maynard's home run in the eighth made it 13-7 but the Bears couldn't come up with the comeback.

The Bears close out the regular season on Tuesday, April 26th as they return to Johnnie LeMaster Field for a nine inning bout with (2) Tennessee Wesleyan. First pitch is slated for 2:00 PM.
