Lexington, KY – The University of Pikeville men's and women's Track & Field teams competed in the Kentucky Track & Field Invitational Friday and Saturday afternoon hosted by the University of Kentucky. The event was stacked with top competition and UPIKE fared well.
Noah Thomas had two top-ten finishes for the Bears on the men's side. In the hammer throw on Friday, he placed eighth with a mark of 48.28m and was only behind NCAA Division I and II throwers. In the discus throw this afternoon, he finished in sixth place with a toss of 45.18m, behind only NCAA Division I and III throwers.
Valerie Kendrick also notched a pair of top-ten showings on the women's side. The freshman finished eighth in the discus throw with a throw of 37.62m, which was the best of all NAIA performers and behind just NCAA Division I and II performers. In the shot put, she had an outdoor personal best of 11.76m to finish ninth, and was behind just Ricquel Williams of Campbellsville in NAIA competition. Kendrick also competed in the hammer throw and posted a mark of 32.26m.
Ethan Rowe competed in the shot put, discus, and hammer throws for the Bears, with his best performance coming in the shot put. He finished 12th with a throw of 10.59m. In the hammer throw, he finished at 33.17m and had a toss of 28.76m in the discus.
Ethan Moore also competed in the shot put, hammer, and discus throws for UPIKE. In the discus, he posted a mark of 29.71m. He threw the hammer 30.74m and finished 14th in the shot put at 9.81m.
Bobby Allums competed in the 400-meter dash for the Bears, where he ran a 55.82.
Avery Adderley cleared 1.75m in the high jump, which ties his best clearance from the indoor season.
Verlecia Scarlett didn't post a mark in the hammer throw.
