Baseball Headed To Georgetown For MSC Tournament

Georgetown, KY – The University of Pikeville baseball team heads to Georgetown College tomorrow afternoon for the Mid-South Conference Tournament Opening Round against the Tigers. They are scheduled for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. If the games are split, a winner-take-all game would be played on Friday at 2:00 p.m. When these two teams met earlier this season, Georgetown won two of the three contests.

Scouting the Bears
UPIKE heads into tomorrow's matchup with an overall record of 16-30 and are the No. 9 seed in the tournament.

They are led offensively by Tyler Maynard, Tyler Freas, and Noah Helton. Helton was injured at the beginning of the season, but has come back and played well for the Bears. He is hitting .300 over 34 starts, racking up 36 hits, five doubles, and is tied for the team-lead in homers with five and RBI with 25.

Maynard leads the team with a .321 average, 54 hits, and is tied for the team-lead with 25 RBI and nine doubles. He is also second on the team with 36 runs scored. He also has 18 multi-hit games.

Freas is tied for the NAIA lead in triples with eight. He is also tied for the team-lead with nine doubles and is second on the team with 54 hits. Other players to watch are Demarco Miller, who is tied for the team-lead with five homeruns and tied for second with 23 RBI and Cam Revolt. Revolt is second on the team with four homers. Ryan Sartin is also tied for second on the team with 23 RBI.

Players to watch for on the mound are Jairemy Pulido and Grayson Harris. Pulido has been a solid starter for the Bears, throwing two complete games and 54 innings. He leads the team with 39 strikeouts. In relief, Harris has been a go to for UPIKE. He has a team-high three wins over 36.1 innings pitched with 29 strikeouts.

The Bears are led by Cody Andreychuk in his first season.

Scouting the Tigers
Georgetown is the No. 4 seed in the tournament and holds a 28-17 overall record.

Joshua Duarte and Eric Burckle are solid bats for the Tigers. Duarte is tied for fourth in the conference with 15 stolen bases. He leads the team with a .373 average, four triples, 56 hits, 32 runs scored, and 13 doubles. He is second with 33 RBI and third with five homers.

Burckle is batting .331 and is second on the team with 49 hits. He also has six doubles and two homeruns. Hank Schineller leads the team with eight homers and 34 RBI.

On the mound, Jake Manderson is second in the MSC with a 3.06 earned run average. He is second on the team with 56 strikeouts and tied for second with 47 innings pitched.

Micah Baumfield is in his 11th season at the helm of the Georgetown program and has 356 wins with the Tigers.
