Berea, KY – The University of Pikeville men's and women's track & field teams competed at the Landon Bond Invitational Saturday hosted by Berea College. The women's team finish 7th out of 11 teams with 32 points while the men finished 9th out of 13 teams with 24 points.
Noah Thomas led the way for the men, with 20 points, thanks to a pair of wins in the javelin throw and hammer throw. He won the hammer throw with a mark of 49.19m for his second win of the season in the event. Competing in the javelin for the first time this year, he crushed his personal best by nearly four meters, with a toss of 47.17m. This mark also beat the field by nearly three meters. He now has three wins during the outdoor season.
Valerie Kendrick scored 18 points for the women, including a win in the discus throw and a second-place finish in the shot put. She won the discus throw for the first time in her collegiate career by nearly two meters at 38.24m to earn 10 points. An outdoor personal best of 11.61m in the shot put gave her eight more points after a second-place finish. In the hammer throw, she finished 10th with a mark of 32.58m.
Verlecia Scarlett scored eight points for UPIKE. She finished fourth in the shot put for five points after a throw of 10.77m. A personal best toss of 38.46m in the hammer throw placed her sixth and gave her three more points. In the discus, she recorded a mark of 23.56m.
Miracle Taylor competed in the hammer throw for the Bears and tied her personal best from last week at Montreat, with a throw of 40.85m to give her a third-place finish.
Bobby Allums ran the 400-meter dash for UPIKE, and claimed four points after a 52.97 gave him fifth place.
Ethan Rowe and
Ethan Moore were also in action for the Bears. Rowe finished ninth in the shot put with an outdoor personal best of 10.77m. He finished 14th in the discus with a 30.53m toss and didn't record a mark in the hammer throw.
Moore set a pair of personal bests this weekend in the hammer throw and javelin throw. In the hammer, he finished 11th with a mark of 31.36m to crush his previous personal best by nearly four meters. He competed for the first time in his collegiate career in the javelin, recording a throw of 22.56m. He also finished 12th in the shot put, with a toss of 9.98m.

Both teams will be back in action next weekend on Friday and Saturday in Williamsburg, KY at the Pepsi Cumberlands Invitational and Distance Carnival hosted by University of the Cumberlands.
