Bears And Tigers Split Thursday Doubleheader

Pikeville, KY – The University of Pikeville softball team went 1-1 against the Georgetown College Tigers Thursday afternoon at Paul Butcher Field. They took game one 9-4 and lost game two 9-0.

Game One
After the Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, the Bears grabbed two in the bottom of the inning. Zoe Ingram hit a double into left center to bring in Lillie Kluesner, and reached third on the throw home, but the throw to third went into left field and allowed Ingram to score and make it 2-1 UPIKE.

This lead would increase to 3-1 on an error by Georgetown in the fourth where the first baseman hesitated on the throw home, allowing the Bears to score. The Tigers took the lead with three runs in the top of the sixth to make it 4-3.

The Bears then scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to regain a 9-4 lead. Carrie Boyd, Katelyn Byrd, and Sophie Kluesner all had RBI singles. Zoe Ingram had an RBI walk and Kendall Hillard had an RBI double in the inning.

Georgetown made things interesting in the top of the seventh, loading the bases with nobody out. However, in her first pitching appearance as a Bear, Carolyn Alincic slammed the door with three straight strikeouts to give UPIKE the win. This was her first victory as a Bear. UPIKE had 10 total hits from eight different players in the game.

Game Two
The Tigers scored seven in the first inning of the second contest and never looked back. UPIKE had a runner in scoring position in two innings, but couldn't bring anyone home in the 9-0 loss.

What's Up Next
UPIKE now sits at 12-26 overall and 2-20 in the Mid-South Conference. The Bears and Tigers play two more tomorrow at Paul Butcher Field, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
