Williamsburg, KY – The University of Pikeville Men's and Women's Track & Field teams were in action over the past two days at the Pepsi Cumberlands Invitational and Distance Carnival hosted by University of the Cumberlands. The men finished in seventh place while the women finish in 10th.
Noah Thomas had another strong week for the Bears. He won the hammer throw on Friday afternoon with a mark of 48.43m, beating his nearest competitor by 1.56m and scoring 10 points for UPIKE. He finished second in the discus throw with a toss of 44.32m for eight points and second in the shot put at 13.11m for another eight points.
Valerie Kendrick scored 23 points for the Bears on the women's side. She won both the shot put and discus events. In the shot put, she posted a mark of 11.34m for 10 points before lapping the competition in the discus with a throw of 38.18m, 2.79m better than any other competitor. This gave her another 10 points, before finishing sixth in the hammer throw at 32.65m and grabbing three more points for UPIKE.
Bobby Allums had a great weekend for the Bears, scoring nine points. He set a new personal best in the 100-meter dash with an 11.12 that gave him fifth place and four points. He claimed fourth in the 200-meter dash, running a 22.36 and scoring five more points.
Ethan Rowe claimed a trio of top-15 finishes in the hammer throw, discus throw, and shot put. In the hammer on Friday, he finished in 12th at 35.03m and crushed his previous personal best by 2.11m. He had another personal best in the outdoor shot put with a mark of 10.84m that gave him 12th place. In the discus, he finished in 15th at 29.21m.
Ethan Moore also had a pair of top-15 finishes in the hammer and discus throws. He finished 14th in the discus with a mark of 29.23m to beat a personal best from last weekend. In the hammer, he had another 14th place finish and another personal best toss of 31.95m. Moore also competed in the shot put for UPIKE.
Avery Adderley competed for the Bears in the high jump and didn't record a height.
