Bears Blanked In Mid-South Opener

McKenzie, Tenn. - The University of Pikeville Bears opened Mid-South Conference play tonight on the road against Bethel (Tenn.) and were defeated 6-0.

Offense was tough to come by tonight for the Bears as they finished the match with zero shots on goal. The Bears' best opportunity of the evening came in the 5' but the play was whistled dead for an offside. Bethel struck first in the 9', then followed it up with goals in the 16' and 17'. Later on in the first half, the Wildcats added to their lead in the 33' and closed out the first half with a 4-0 lead. Shots on goal after the first 45 minutes were 12-0 in favor of Bethel.

UPIKE's defense found itself on its heels again in the second half. The Wildcats fired ten second-half shots and tacked on two more goals in the 49' and 57' to go up 6-0. Neither side would score in the remaining 32 minutes of the game and the Wildcats defeated the Bears 6-0.

The Wildcats spent a lot of time in the attacking zone, finishing the game with a total of 13 shots on goal off 22 shot attempts. UPIKE sophomore goalie Adam Di Millo made his seventh start in net tonight and recorded seven saves.

Tonight's loss at the hands of Bethel drops the Bears record to 4-4 on the year and 0-1 in Mid-South Conference play. The Bears will stay in Tennessee for their next Matchup on Saturday afternoon against Freed-Hardeman.
