Richmond, Ky. – Women's bowling opened the season with a third-place finish at the MSC Baker Shootout over the weekend, earning the Jr. Varsity title and runner-up distinctions.
In the varsity bracket, the reigning MSC champions, Tennessee Southern, claimed the title with 7666 pins. The Bears knocked down 7403 through 40 baker games, falling 113 pins short of runner-up Cumberlands. Coach Brown's "A" squad came into Sunday at ninth on the leaderboard, climbing an impressive six spots to their eventual third place finish.
After 20 games, the Bears totaled 2947 pins, trailing Tennessee Southern by just 33 pins. The Bears averaged 147.5 pins per game, their highest coming in game eight, where they bowled a 247. The Bears came out firing on Sunday, knocking down 200 plus in four games and averaged 222.8. Sunday's total of 4456 pins showed a 1,509-pin improvement over the opening day.
UPIKE's JV1 and JV2 units dominated the Jr. Varsity bracket, as JV1 took the victory by 297 pins. The JV1 team totaled 7021, while JV2 knocked down 6724. Campbellsville finished third with 442 pins less than the Bears' second JV team.
