Prestonsburg, Ky. - The Bears took to the course Saturday and Sunday in Prestonsburg for the UPIKE Fall Invitational at Stonecrest and finished first out of five teams.
The UPIKE women's golf team has participated in four tournaments so far this season and for the third time this season, the Bears finished first. Not only did the Bears finish in first, but they blew away the competition. As a team, UPIKE finished 67 strokes ahead of the team that finished in second.
In every tournament so far, multiple Bears have finished with all-tournament honors. That streak continued this weekend as four Bears finished in the top-5, and seven finished in the top-10. Freshmen Renee and Carly Crooks, sophomore Sophia Beverly and junior Gabrielle Blankenship all finished in the top five this weekend. Renee and Carly Crooks have both finished with all-tournament honors in every tournament so far this season.
For the third time this season, Renee Crooks finished first of all the players in the tournament. She finished with a 71 on day 1, with two birdies on the front nine. She closed out first place on day 2 with back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th holes.
Carly Crooks finished in second, just five strokes ahead of UPIKE sophomore Sophia Beverly. Gabrielle Blankenship finished in fifth place. Blankenship finished day 1 with a career-best 78 and followed it up with a 79 on day 2.
The Bears have a quick turnaround coming up as they will travel to Johnson City, Tenn. for the East Tennessee Collegiate Invitational on Monday and Tuesday of this week.
