Pikeville, Ky. – The UPIKE Bears opened Mid-South Conference play this evening as they played host to the Georgetown College Tigers. The Tigers defeated the Bears 3-0.
The Bear and Tigers were neck and neck in the first set, but the Tigers eventually pulled away. The Tigers jumped out to a 23-14 lead in the second set but the Bears went on a four-point run to cut the Tiger lead to five. UPIKE's comeback bid ultimately fell short and the Bears lost the second set 25-19. The Bears, despite being down 2-0, showed great energy and great fight in the third set but fell just short.
The Bears were led in attacking by
Daniela Hernandez and
Jada Slone. Hernandez and Slone both finished the match with six kills. The Bears would also finish the game with seven blocks, with junior
Marianne Negron Cordero leading the way with four.
The Bears will hit the road this Thursday evening for their next match as they take on the University of the Cumberlands.
