Addison, Ill. – UPIKE men's bowling finished 6
th of 71 teams at the high-caliber Kegel/ISBPA Collegiate Classic over the weekend.
Bryce Oliver led the Bears, placing seventh overall in the field of 469 bowlers from across the country.
The event, held at Stardust Bowl in Addison, Ill. is classified USBC Tier 1 and included five team games followed by 20 baker-style games.
The Bears totaled 5219 pins in qualifying team play, bowling scores of 1009, 1000, 1087, 962, and 1161. After five team games, UPIKE sat in seventh just five pins behind sixth place Muskingum. In baker play, the Bears recorded the third-highest total pin fall across 20 games with 4,241. UPIKE finished with a 9460-pin grand total to take sixth, just one pin short of fifth place Tennessee Southern.
This is the first event this season the Bears have finished outside the top-five. The Bears lead the nation in the current USBC power rankings with a slight advantage over No. 2 Wichita State.
Oliver led the Bears with six top-10 finishes headed into the weekend, and raised the total to seven with his performance in Addison. The junior totaled 1169 pins, averaging 233.8 pins per game. After opening with a 204, Oliver bowled a 225 followed up with a 257 in the third frame for his highest score of the tournament.
Ryan Taylor managed the second-best finish for the Bears with his 971-pin totaled which landed him in 136
th. Taylor averaged 194.2 pins per game with his highest being 221 in the third game.
The Bears return to the lanes on Saturday, January 14
th for the MSC's Lynne Jordan Memorial held at Kingpin Lanes in Louisville, Ky.
