No. 15 Union knocks off UPike

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – No. 15 Union College remained unbeaten on the season after a 6-0 win over the University of Pikeville on Saturday afternoon at the Bob Amos Complex.
 
The Bulldogs improved to 12-0-1 on the season and 8-0-1 in the AAC. The loss dropped UPike to 5-7-2 overall, 2-5-2 in the league.
 
Union got on the scoreboard in the seventh minute when freshman attacker Callum Edwards scored on an assist by junior midfielder Augusto Salomao. It was the first of two goals by Edwards on the day.
 
Later in the half, Union moved the score to 2-0 when freshman Callum Longworth netted an unassisted goal in the 40th minute. The Bulldogs took that score to recess.
 
In the 59th minute, junior Asuka Kaneda scored off a pass from graduate student Nathan Bouard to make it 3-0. In the 74th minute, Edwards netted his second goal, which was unassisted.
 
Not content, the Bulldogs scored twice in the final 10 minutes of play. The first came from Salomao on an unassisted goal, followed by junior midfielder Titus Craig to close it out.
 
The Bears had seven shots on goal in the contest. On his senior day, Daron Baumann was the only player with two.
 
Senior Gabriel Torres had nine saves in the setback.
 
The Bears will hit the road on Wednesday afternoon when they play in Waleska, Ga., against RV Reinhardt University. Union remains away from home when it visits Tennessee Wesleyan University on Wednesday afternoon.
