Midway, Ky. - Coach Bernie Haney's UPIKE swim Bears had a good showing in their second swim meet of the season, taking on Shawnee State and Midway on Saturday.
In the men's 400 medley relay, the team of Bryce Barton, RJ Goins, Isaiah Juneau, and Jacob Rubado finished third. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Bryce Barton, RJ Goins, and Isaiah Juneau took fourth with a time of 1:41.36.
Freshman RJ Goins had a standout performance taking first in the 1,000-yard freestyle and first in the 500-yard freestyle. Goins dominated the 1,000, winning the event by 27 seconds. Goins also took first in the 500 by six seconds.
Goins' fellow newcomer, Jacob Rubado, finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.87. Rubado also finished with a 57.00 time in the 100 freestyle.
Bryce Barton finished second in the 100-yard backstroke and third in the 200 backstroke.
In the 100 breaststroke, Isaiah Juneau swam a 1:11.77 and a 2:38.64 in the 200 breaststroke.
On the women's side, Luis Casternda swam a 3:43.91 in the 200 freestyle and 41.61 in the 50 freestyle.
Madelyn Smith finished third in the 200 breaststroke and third in the 500 freestyle. Smith scored 17 points for the team.
The swim Bears will be back in action on November 4th for a home meet against Shawnee State.
