WBB rolls in battle of the Bears

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The University of Pikeville women's basketball team rebounded on Tuesday night, knocking off Truett McConnell 82-37 at the Appalachian Wireless Arena.

UPike will take a 3-2 record, both overall and in the conference, into The Show this weekend in Kingsport, Tenn.

UPike jumped out to a 9-2 lead on a run that was bookended by senior forward Morgan Stamper.

After a basket by Truett sophomore Destinee Lovejoy, the Bears ran off the next 22 consecutive points. The run, which extended to the 7:12 mark of the second period, included scoring by seven different Bears, five of which came from sophomore Katie Collopy.

When it ended, UPike led 31-4. At the half, the score was 44-15.

Freshman Rachel Bush made the most of her first collegiate start, sinking 9-of-12 from the field and finishing with a double-double, 19 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Allie Stone followed with 18 after hitting four three-point shots.

Stamper, a returning All-America, had her third straight double-double, scoring 10 and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Junior Kacie Williams led Truett McConnell with 14 points. Sophomore Alexis Brewster came off the bench to score 12.

Behind the two double-doubles, UPike won the rebounding battle 37-22.
