Swim Has Successful Meet With SSU

Pikeville, Ky. - UPIKE swim hosted their second home meet in program history against Shawnee State Saturday.  

On the men's side, the team of Bryce Barton, RJ Goins, Isaiah Juneau, and Jacob Rubado took first in the men's 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49.28. Jacob Rubado edged out SSU's Alex Ray by .50 seconds in the 50 freestyle. Bryce Barton took first in the 200 backstroke and Isaiah Juneau took the top spot in the 200 breaststroke. In the 500 freestyle, freshman RJ Goins finished in first place by 53 seconds. Goins also finished in the 200 individual medley, just .79 seconds behind Shawnee State's Evan Siberell. The men's team finished with 67 total points. Bryce Barton, RJ Goins, Isaiah Juneau, and Jacob Rubado all collected 16.75 team points each.  

On the women's side, Luisa Casternda swam a 2:32.75 in the 200 freestyle and a 1:48.22 in the 100 backstroke. Madelyn Smith took first in the 200 individual medley, recording a time of 2:52.65. Smith also finished the woo breaststroke with a time of 3:05.03. Smith and Casternda finished with 13 and seven team points, respectively, for a total of 20 points.  

Coach Bernie Haney's UPIKE Bears will be back in action December 9th in Portsmouth, Ohio for a meet with Shawnee State and Campbellsville.
