Heitman signs with UPike swimming

The University of Pikeville has signed a swimmer with international experience who will also be the first diver in program history.

Swimming Coach Bernie Haney has signed Morgan Heitman to a scholarship. She will join the program next school year.

"We're really exited to add Morgan to our family here at UPike," said Haney. "She is a multipurpose swimmer who will also add diving to our program. She has a lot of experience and will be a terrific addition to our program."

Heitman is a native of Alexandria, Va., and will graduate from Edison High School. She currently has a 4.04 grade-point average, and will graduate in only three years.

She competes for the Potomac Marlins swim club. In addition, she represented Germany in the European Forces Swim League.

Heitman is a versatile swimmer. She competes in the 1000-yard meet as well as the 200 butterfly and 200 IM.

She also does all six dives and will represent the school in diving competitions.

The Bears are scheduled to return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 13 when they travel to Midway University.
