Bowling Green, Ky. - The UPIKE men's and women's bowling squads both competed in the Mid-South Conference Championships this past weekend. The women's squad captured the MSC Tournament title while the men's squad finished fourth.
Women's Bowling:
UPIKE received a bye in the opening round then faced Bethel in the second round. The top-seeded Bears defeated the Wildcats 4-1, capped off with a 234-183 win to move onto the third round. UPIKE defeated Midway 4-2 in the third round. The fourth round pitted the Bears against UT-Southern. UPIKE won 4-2 over the Firehawks, who they would meet again in the final of the tournament. After falling in the first match, the Bears won the next four games, capped off with a 237-208 win. The win was UPIKE's sixth tournament win of the year.
Men's Bowling:
After receiving a bye in the first round, the Bears downed Cumberland 4-0 in the second. In the third round, however, the Bears were bested 4-3 by the Thomas More Saints. The Bears rebounded and defeated Shawnee State 4-1. In the sixth round, UPIKE was defeated in seven games by the eventual tournament champions, the UT-Southern Firehawks.
Since both the men's and women's squads won the regular season championships, both have clinched a berth in the NAIA National Tournament. Both men's and women's squads will be back in action next weekend for the Hoosier Classic in Indianapolis, Indiana.
