Bristol, Tenn. - Coach Brennan Alderman made his UPIKE head coaching debut and got his first win as the Bears cruised to a 6-1 win over King University.
Doubles:
Mirko Dedich and Juan Diego Alzate teamed up and won a 7-5 doubles decision over the Tornado. The Bears kept it going when Valentin Ortiz and Paulo Castillo took the 6-2 win. Alfonso Robinson and Martin Lorenzo won their match by way of WD.
Singles:
Valentin Ortiz got things started in the 1 spot, splitting Alex Sodre 7-5 and 4-6 in the first two sets. Ortiz sealed the win in the third set with a 6-1 win. Juan Diego Alzate was defeated 2-6, 6-4, 6-7 in his matchup. Paulo Castillo won a 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 decision over Andrew Sciabel. Mirko Dedich defeated his King University adversary 6-4, 7-6, 10-8 to seal it for UPIKE. Similar to their doubles matches, Martin Lorenzo and Alfonso Robinson won by WD.
Coach Brennan Alderman is 1-0 at the helm of the UPIKE men's tennis program. Coach Alderman and the Bears will be back in action next week when they travel to Harrogate, Tenn. for a bout with Lincoln Memorial University.
