Sartin Has Four Hits In Win Over Midway

Pikeville, Ky. - A beautiful day at Johnnie Lemaster Field was made even better with the Bears 11-10 win over Midway Tuesday afternoon.

Slugger Noah Helton got the scoring started in the bottom of the first with a two-RBI single. One batter later, Tyler Myanard scored after a sacrifice fly by Noah Brooks. After neither team scored in the second, both teams tacked on on run in the third. Noah Helton knocked in his 33rd RBI of the season to put the Bears up 4-1.

After two home runs in the top of the fourth, the Eagles knotted the score at 4-4. UPIKE responded with five runs, starting with an RBI triple to right by Ryan Sartin. Sartin crossed the plate after a wild pitch, putting the Bears up 6-4. Later on in the frame, Tyler Maynard scored on after an error. Tyler Freas added to UPIKE's lead with a single to center, scoring Noah Helton. Samuel Torres capped off the fourth by drawing a walk with the bases loaded to put UPIKE up 9-4.

In the fifth, Ryan Sartin tripled to right center again then scored on an errant throw. Noah Helton crossed the plate for the second time today after a double by Greg Lile. UPIKE led 11-4 after five innings of play.

The Eagles did not go quietly, however. Midway put a pair of runs on the board in the sixth, then three more in the eighth. Ethan Cernohous checked into the game with the Eagles threatening and turned them away in the eighth and the ninth. Cernohous turned Midway into a 4-6-3 double play with runners on the corners, then secured his first save after Ryan Sartin connected 5-3 with Tyler Maynard for the win.

Coach Cody Andreychuk's squad has now won three in a row for the second time this season and are now 11-15 (4-8 MSC). The Bears will pick it back up Thursday with a three game road set with the Wilberforce Bulldogs.
