UPIKE Splits Day 2 Double Header

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - Just like day one of the Myrtle Beach trip, the Bears split today's double header. The Bears notched a win over Goldey-Beacom but fell to Madonna shortly after.

Game 1: UPIKE 4, Goldey-Beacom 1

UPIKE jumped on the Lightning early, hanging three in the bottom of the first. Zoe Ingram belted a line drive to the shortstop who committed an error, scoring Sophie Kluesner. Ingram then crossed the plate after Kelsie Hardester doubled to center field. Haleigh Jones made it 3-0 with an RBI single.

GBC got one back in the top of the third, but the Bears went back up three after Lillie Kluesner scored on an error. Neither team scored again and the Bears won 4-1. Kelsie Hardester pitched another complete game today. The junior from Union, Mo. gave up one run on five hits and struck out seven.

Game 2: UPIKE 2, Madonna 7

Carolyn Alincic got the start on the hill in game two for UPIKE but ran into some early trouble. The Crusaders put up four runs in the bottom of the second. UPIKE cut the Madonna lead in half in the top of the third when Lillie Kluesner and Zoe Ingram hit back-to-back RBI singles. Those would prove to be the only runs the Bears would score, however. Madonna tacked on one in the fourth and plated two more insurance runs in the sixth and took this one 7-2.

UPIKE is now 6-2 (0-0 MSC) after today's games. UPIKE will be back in action for day three of the Myrtle Beach trip 2023 with a double header against Iowa Wesleyan and Delaware Valley tomorrow evening.
