Box Score Pikeville, Ky. - UPIKE lost their second consecutive game Tuesday afternoon, falling 8-2 at Johnnie Lemaster Field to the Bluefield Rams.
Tyler Freas got the Bears' first hit of the afternoon, then advanced to second then to third after back-to-back wild pitches. Freas then scored after a balk, giving UPIKE a 1-0 lead after two innings. UPIKE's lead was short lived, however, as the Rams took the lead with a three-run home run in the third. The Bears got a run back when Noah Brooks notched an RBI single while pinch hitting in the bottom of the third.
Bluefield hung four runs on the Bears in the top of the fifth to put the game out of reach. After the Rams tacked on one more in the sixth, neither team would score again and Bluefield won 8-2.
Jake Biggs pitched 4.2 innings and gave up six runs (three unearned) and struck out five today. Ethan Cernohous pitched 3.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, giving up zero two hits and striking out two. Cernohous has held his opponents scoreless in each of his last two relief appearances.
UPIKE's record falls to 7-11 (1-5 MSC) following today's loss to the Rams. Next up for the Bears is a matchup with Milligan University in Elizabethton, Tenn.
