COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville wrapped up its 2023 regular season on the softball field, falling to Lindsey Wilson 3-1 and 13-4 on Saturday afternoon.
UPIKE (15-23, 4-19 in the Mid-South Conference) will begin play in the postseason on Thursday, May 4 in Bowling Green.
Blue Raiders 3, Bears 1: Lindsey Wilson (19-22, 10-12) got the scoring started with a pair of runs in the second and added one in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.
Third baseman Elizabeth Funk led off the second with a double and scored on a single by second baseman Brooklyn Ott. Designated player Tanlee Hudgins, who had walked, came around to scored on a hit by Madyson Jones.
In the fifth, centerfielder Brylee Pickerill doubled and scored on a groundout.
The Bears posted their only run of the game when left fielder Sammy Case blasted a home run to left field in the sixth inning. It was the freshman's first home run of her career.
The Bears only had one other hit, a single by third baseman Lillie Kluesner.
CJ Alincic went the distance for the Bears in the circle. She had seven strikeouts and only one walk.
Blue Raiders 13, Bears 4: The Bears scored two runs in each of the first two innings, but the Blue Raiders scored multiple times in all four turns at the plate to pull out the win.
UPIKE had five hits in the loss, all of them singles. First baseman Haleigh Jones had two of them, driving in a run and scoring one. Designated player Alyssa Franklin and shortstop Zoe Ingram had a hit and RBI each, while Case added a single and scored two runs.
Centerfielder Katelyn Byrd also scored for the Bears.
