Bears Bested In Double Header With GC

GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville softball team fell twice on Friday afternoon, falling to Georgetown 11-1 and 7-6.  


The series will conclude with a noon first pitch on Saturday afternoon.  

Tigers 11, Bears 1: Georgetown scored in five of their six at bats in the opener to pull out the win.  

The Tigers plated two runs in each of the first two innings and added one in the third to lead 5-0 before the Bears scored their only run in the top of the fourth. Georgetown got that one back in the bottom of the inning and then added five more in the sixth to finish it off.  

The only tally of the game for the Bears came when catcher Jamie Pollard singled up the middle to score third baseman Lillie Kluesner, who had reached on a fielder's choice. Pollard's hit was the third of the inning for the Bears, but they could only manage the single run.  

Second baseman Sophie Kluesner had two hits for the Bears. Lillie Kluesner, first baseman Haleigh Jones and Pollard had the others.  

Kelsie Hardester (6-4) pitched the first two innings and took the loss. She allowed four runs on six hits, struck out one and walked one. Chloe Bryant pitched the final 3-2/3.  

Tigers 7, Bears 6: Georgetown (20-13, 7-6 in the Mid-South Conference) scored in the bottom of the eighth to pull out the nightcap.  

UPIKE (14-14, 3-11) trailed 1-0 when it plated two in the top of the third on a two-run home run by first baseman Alyssa Franklin. It was Franklin's second homer of the season.  

After Georgetown scored two runs in each of the third and fourth innings to take a 5-2 lead, the Bears tied it in the fifth. The first run scored when Jones singled in Alexis Roby, who had walked. Designated Player Zoe Keeton then had a two-run double to tie the score.  

The Tigers took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the inning before the Bears tied it in the sixth. Shortstop Zoe Ingram opened the inning with a single and scored on a two-out single by Sophie Kluesner.  

It remained tied until the bottom of the eighth. Right fielder Destiny Wallace opened the inning with a walk. She stole second and was sacrificed to third before scoring on a single to right field off the bat of left fielder Stevie Shepherd.  

Franklin's homer was one of three hits she had in the game. Lillie Kluesner had two hits, while Sophie Kluesner, Keeton and Jones added singles.  

C.J. Alincic (6-8) went the distance in the circle for the Bears. She struck out nine and allowed 11 hits.
