Pippa Passes, Ky.- Men's soccer got back in the win column Thursday with a 5-0 win over the Alice Lloyd Eagles Thursday evening.
UPIKE's offense went to work early in this one with Alejandro Rodriguez Munoz burying a rebound in the 3' after a shot on goal by Juan Pablo Farkas. Five minutes later, Henry Glackin scored on a brilliant set piece by Ben Beltermann to put the Bears up 2-0. The Bears continued to pour on the shot attempts and the shots on goal and broke through again in the 30'. Anthony Aguilar connected with captain Daron Baumann to put the Bears up 3-0. Coach Shaun Schetka's squad outshot the Eagles 14-2 and outscored them 3-0 in the first 45.
UPIKE picked up where they left off in the second half with a goal by graduate student Coby Fields in the 54'. Ben Beltermann, who finished the game with a pair of assists, was credited with the assist on Fields' goal. The final UPIKE goal of the evening came by way of Samuel Cristancho in the 78'.
Goalkeeper Adam DiMillo made his 2023 debut and turned away all two of the Eagles' shots on goal. Five different Bears got on the scoresheet today, including three players netting their first caps. Alejandro Rodriguez Munoz, Coby Fields and Samuel Cristancho all recorded their first goals in a UPIKE uniform.
Thursday's match against the Eagles was a complete team effort that turned into a 5-0 victory for the Bears, who are now 2-3 on the year. UPIKE will hit the road again Saturday when they take on the Johnson University Royals in Knoxville, Tenn.
