Bears score late to tie Royals

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Pikeville men's soccer team rallied from a two-goal deficit to tie Johnson University 2-2 on Saturday afternoon.

UPike is now 2-3-1 on the season and 0-1-1 against AAC competition. Johnson is 0-4-1 overall, 0-2-1 in the league.

The Royals scored the only goal of the first half in the 29th minute when Alberto Guerrero beat the keeper off a dish from Trey Whidden.

The remainder of the goals were unassisted in the match.

Johnson took a 2-0 lead in the 52nd minute when Dylan Cornett scored.

The Bears wouldn't settle, though, and drew within a goal six minutes later when junior Anthony Aguilar scored his team-leading third goal of the season.

It appeared that would be the way it ended until Daron Baumann tied it with a goal in the 88th minute. The sophomore now has a pair of goals on the early season.

Junior keeper Adam DiMillo recorded 10 saves in the tie.

The Bears had 10 shots on goal, with Baumann and senior Jon Barragan recording three apiece.

UPike steps out of AAC play on Tuesday afternoon, hosting Alice Lloyd College. That match begins at 3 p.m. at Bob Amos Complex.
