Box Score 2 MOUNT HOPE, W.Va. – The University of Pikeville volleyball team played a tri-match on Thursday night, coming away with wins over homestanding Appalachian Bible College and Boyce College.
 
The Bears beat Boyce College 3-1 by scores of 19-25, 25-8, 25-20, 25-21. They then beat ABC 3-0 by scores of 25-8, 25-10, 25-17.
 
UPike is now 12-3 on the season and faces a busy weekend. The Bears return to Appalachian Athletics Conference play on Friday night when they host Columbia College at 7 p.m., and will entertain Columbia International University on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
 
Both matches this weekend will be at the UPike Gym.
 
UPike 3, Boyce 1: Boyce, an NCCAA institution located in Louisville that is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, opened with a first-set win before the Bears settled down to take the next three sets.
 
It was another solid outing by junior 
Yaricel Rodriguez, who had 18 kills to let the Bears. Freshman 
Lanie Hawley followed with eight kills, while freshman 
Kyra Looney totaled seven. Senior 
Kiara Warrens had four service aces as the team had six in the match.
 
On the defensive side, Hawley recorded three block assists in the win while Looney had two. Senior setter 
Cheyenne Martinez finished with 30 assists and 13 digs, while Warrens had 13 digs as well.
 
UPike 3, ABC 0: Appalachian Bible College, also an NCCAA school, saw Hawley put together an incredible stat line across the board. Offensively, she had 10 kills and six service aces while posting two solo blocks and three block assists on the defensive side.
 
Warrens also had four service aces on offense and led the team with 10 digs as well.
 
Martinez had 23 assists in the win. She now averages 12.9 assists per set on the season.
