LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Pikeville men's bowling team is the winner of the Mid-South Conference regular-season championship after their showings in two events this weekend.
Â
The Bears finished second in the Lynne Jordan Memorial and third in the Thomas Burris Memorial, but were the top finishers on both sides among league teams.

As a result, the Bears will face the winner of the opening-round match between Union and Bethel in the Mid-South Conference tournament, which is to be played Feb. 22-24 in Bowling Green.

On Saturday, the Bears finished 42 pins behind Milligan University in the final varsity standings. UPike's score was 8020.

In the 14-team JV division, JV1 came up with the win, finishing with a total of 7506. JV2 came in sixth at 7032.

Among individuals, All-American
Bryce Oliver was the overall winner, averaging 243.8 for the day. The Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, product wrapped up his day with a 300 game to pull away for the win.

Sophomore
Eli Mayberry was fourth in the field with an average of 227.6, two spots ahead of senior
Ryan Taylor, who averaged 226.2. Freshman
Andrew Allen followed with a score of 217.2.

Freshman
Austin Terry averaged 209, while junior
Blake Hisle finished at 208.4.

The Thomas Burris Memorial, named for a former UPike bowler, followed on Sunday, with Webber International (Fla.) University getting the win with a total pinfall of 7879. Tennessee Wesleyan followed at 7567, two pins ahead of UPike's 7565.

UPike JV1 finished third at 6915, while JV2 had a score of 6186.

Oliver was again the singles medalist, averaging 234.2 for his five games. The senior scored no lower than 215 for the event and capped his day with a fourth-game score of 256.

Freshman
Tony Throckmorton finished tied for fourth with an average of 219.8, while junior
Chris LeSueur was 10
th, averaging 215.

Wesley Yazell averaged 205.4 for the day, while Mayberry posted an average of 196.4.

The Bears will have a week off before heading to Lawrenceburg, Ga., on Feb. 3-4 to compete in the NAIA Southeast Open.
