Stanback has double-double in win over Bryan

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Four players reached double figures on Wednesday night as the University of Pikeville Bears knocked off Bryan (Tenn.) College 84-64.
 
The win got UPike back on the winning track after losing its last two home games. It also ended a three-game win streak for the Lions.
 
UPike (17-6, 15-4) came out on fire, scoring 13 of the first 15 points. Four different Bears scored, with sophomore Bradley Bunch leading the way with six. A layup by junior Kyonte Thomas with 16:23 left made the score 13-2.
 
Bryan (12-10, 10-8) responded with a 12-2 run of its own. Senior Caleb Grimes scored five in the stretch, which ended with a three by senior Ian Johnson to cut the UPike lead to a single point at 15-14.
 
The Bears, however, scored nine straight points to begin a 24-5 run over the next eight minutes of game time. The 9-0 run was capitalized by a steal and dunk by senior Jeremy Dillion.
 
UPike, which hit 9-of-11 in the run, saw six players score. Senior Issac Stanback had nine of them, and when Thomas nailed a jumper with 3:07 left, the Bears were on top 39-19.
 
At the half, the Bears led 44-28.
 
The Bears stretched the lead to as many as 34 in the second half, leading 70-36 with 11:07 left, before settling for the 20-point win.
 
Stanback had a double-double for the Bears, scoring 17 while pulling down 14 rebounds. Bunch scored 16 points while grabbing five rebounds. Thomas had 14 points, while sophomore Keian Worrix had 10 points to go with a team-high six assists.
 
Thanks to the work done by Stanback and Bunch, the Bears won the rebounding battle 37-29.
 
Freshman Caden Johnson led three Lions in double figures with 15 points. Grimes followed with 14, while freshman Logan Allen had 11.
 
Junior Josh Baugher, who had who had eight points, led the Lions with nine rebounds and five assists.
 
The Bears will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, heading to Laurinburg, N.C., to play St. Andrews. That game tips off at 2 p.m.
