Men's Soccer bested by Bulldogs

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - UPIKE men's soccer fell 4-1 at Union Commonwealth University Saturday evening.

Union's offense came out on fire in the first ten minutes of the match with a shot attempt and two corner kicks. UPIKE was able to weather the storm and take advantage of a scoring chance. Finn Wijnen fired a shot past UCU keeper Daniel Harrison to put the Bears up 1-0 in the 16'. Bruno Arenal was credited with the assist.

The Bulldogs wasted no time tying the score. Three minutes after Wijnen's goal, UCU's Callum Longworth connected with Ivan Macias Rodriguez to tie the match at 1-1. Union continued to pressure the Bears and would take the lead late in the first half. Charlie Markland scored in the 43' to give the Bulldogs a one-goal advantage heading into the half.

Tomas Cristancho has UPIKE's first shot attempt in second stanza but his bid at goal was just high. Bruno Back had the next UPIKE shot and just like Tomas Cristancho's shot in the 51', it went high. The next shot came from UCU's Callum Longworth and resulted in a 3-1 Bulldog lead.

The final goal of the match came in the 76' when Charlie Markland netted a goal with the help of Callum Longworth. Markland's goal put UCU ahead 4-1. Bruno Arenal and Anthony Aguilar had attempts on net but were turned away by UCU's Daniel Harrison.

UPIKE finished the match with seven shot attempts, four of which were on frame. Tomas Cristancho led the Bears with two shot attempts. UPIKE's shots on goal came from Finn Wijnen, Juan Farkas, Bruno Arenal, and Anthony Aguilar. Joao Miclos made his eighth start in net and turned away eight of Union's 12 shots on goal.

Men's soccer will hit the pitch again Wednesday afternoon for a 4 p.m. home match against the Reinhardt Eagles at Bob Amos.
