PIKEVILLE, Ky. - University of Pikeville men's soccer drew 0-0 with St. Andrews University Saturday afternoon.
The Knights' offense came out on fire in the first 25 minutes of the match with four corner kick opportunities and three shot attempts. UPIKE was able to weather the storm and move the ball into the SAU zone but could not muster any shot attempts.
UPIKE's best scoring opportunity in the first 45 minutes came on a long pass deep into SAU territory that was just out of reach of Samuel Cristancho in the closing seconds. Neither the Bears nor the Knights scored in the first 45, but the Knights held a 3-0 advantage in shot attempts.
The first scoring chance in the second half came when SAU's Tomas Canale fired a shot on frame in the 47' but Bears keeper Adam Di Millo was equal to the challenge and made the save. The Knights had another close call minutes later when Martin Morales Perez hit the post, then Di Millo came up big again seconds later with another save.
UPIKE's first scoring chance in the second half came by way of a header shot from senior Anthony Aguilar in the 57'. Later in the half, the Bears drove the ball deep into SAU territory. With seconds remaining, Bruno Arenal had a chance on frame but SAU's Cristobal Romero came up with a save.
The Knights quickly rallied and moved the ball into UPIKE territory and drew a foul with two seconds left. SAU's Lucas Perotte fired the free kick at the net but Adam Di Millo was once again equal to the challenge and made the save to preserve his shutout and the draw.
Bruno Arenal and Anthony Aguilar had the Bears' only shots on goal in the match. Arenal finished with two shot attempts (one on frame) and Aguilar had one shot on goal. Senior Adam Di Millo got the start in net for the Bears and turned away all six SAU shots on goal.
