BEAVERCREEK, Ohio – The University of Pikeville men's bowling team kicked off the season in fine fashion, winning the titles of both the Orange and Black classics this weekend.

The tournaments, hosted annually by UPike bowling, were held at Beaver-Vu Bowl.

On Saturday, the men won the annual Orange tournament, defeating nine other varsity programs.

UPike finished with a score of 5,629, ahead of second-place University of the Cumberlands, which scored 5,325. Union Commonwealth University was third at 5,234, while Vincennes University was fourth at 5,110.

In the junior varsity division, UPike JV 2 came away with the win with a score of 5,225, while UPike JV 1 was second at 4,998.

On Sunday, the Bears also won the 11-team Black tournament, finishing with a score of 5,372, easily outdistancing Wright State University's second-place score of 4,756.

Vincennes was third at 4,682, while Union Commonwealth came in fourth at 4,648.

In the JV division, UPike JV1 was the winner at 4,644, ahead of UPike JV2 with 4,602. Wright State was third at 4,386, while Tiffin University was fourth with a score of 2,965.

Graduate student
Bryce Oliver was the individual champion on Sunday, finishing with a five-game score of 1,318 for an average of 263.6. Wright State's Caden Graham was his closest competitor, finishing second at 1,101, averaging 220.2.

Reece Kramer of Lourdes was third with an average of 213, while UPike sophomore
Andrew Allen was fourth, averaging 211.4. Dwight Parrish of Barton College completed the all-tournament team with an average of 206.

Among other Bears in the field were junior
Eli Mayberry, who was sixth with an average of 203.2; freshman
Isaiah Jackson, who was seventh at 202.4; senior
Chris LeSueur, who was ninth at 197.8; junior
Larry Iagulli, who came in 13
th at 192.6; and sophomore
Ryan Marszalek, who finished 18
th at 187.2.

UPike will be back in action this coming weekend in Smyrna, Tenn. On Saturday, it will compete in the Greater Nashville Open, and on Sunday, in the Brandon Burns Memorial.

Both are hosted by the Mid-South Conference, in which bowling still competes.
