KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Two days after breaking records both at his school and in his conference, Pikeville running back Amon Williams is piling up the honors.
 
Williams, a 5-11, 185-pound sophomore from Cumming, Ga., has been named the national offensive player of the week by the NAIA.
 
This honor came mere hours after he was named offensive player of the week by the Appalachian Athletics Conference.
 
"We couldn't be happier for Amon," said Corey Fipps, head coach and director of athletics at UPike. "He has worked extremely hard since we reported in August and the results have shown.
 
"Our entire team is thrilled for him. We're all very excited to see where this goes from here."
 
Williams rushed for a school and league record 380 yards on Saturday night in UPike's 48-34 win over Bluefield (Va.) University.
 
His 39 carries matched the school record as well. He had four touchdowns on the ground, setting a new AAC record and equaling the school record.
 
In addition, he caught one pass on Saturday – and it went for a five-yard touchdown. His five touchdowns are both school and conference records.
 
His 380 yards on the ground were the lions share of the team's 444 rushing yards, which is also a new school record.
 
Williams, who has now posted four consecutive games with at least 100 rushing yards, had touchdown runs covering 11, 77, 19 and 8 yards.
 
On the season, Williams has carried the ball 126 times for 923 yards and 10 touchdowns. Having played in seven games this season, he is averaging 131.9 yards per game and 7.3 yards per carry.
 
He leads the AAC in all five of those categories.
 
UPike, 4-4 on the season and atop the AAC standings with a 4-0 record, will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when it travels to Valley, Ala., to meet Point (Ga.) University. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
