PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The University of Pikeville had two players turn in double-doubles but it wasn't enough to overcome the hot shooting of Reinhardt (Ga.) University in an 85-79 decision on Wednesday.
Â
The loss was the first of the season after opening with six straight wins, two of them being league games.
Â
Reinhardt improved to 4-2 overall, 2-0 in the AAC.
Â
Junior
Bradley Bunch, who had 17 at halftime, finished with 21 points and 17 rebounds in the game, while junior point guard
Keian Worrix had 10 points to go with 12 assists.
Â
The Eagles shot 50 percent from the floor in both halves, and blistered the nets with 42.7 percent shooting on three-point tries. To make matters worse for the Bears, Reinhardt was also 14-of-17, 82.4 percent, from the line.
Â
UPike, meanwhile, shot 45.5 percent overall and 35.5 percent from outside. Coming into the game having made 75.6 percent from the stripe, they finished 8-for-13, 61.3 percent, on free throw tries.
Â
UPike played from behind most of the night, not leading after the four-minute mark of the first half. Worrix went to the line and sank two with 2:37 left to pull his team within one at 76-75, but the Eagles responded with a dagger – a deep, contested three by Nate Jones from the corner some 26 seconds later.
Â
The Bears were never closer than four the rest of the way.
Â
Bunch and Worrix were joined in double figures by
LA Walker, who fired in 21, and
Tyler Best, who came off the bench for 11.
Â
Reinhardt was led by Tee Williams, who had a game-high 29 to go with six rebounds. Jones followed with 16 and six rebounds, while Brasen James finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Â
UPike will be back in action on Saturday when they begin a four-game road swing at St. Andrews University. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
