Johnson ends Bears' six-game win streak

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Pikeville saw its six-game win streak come to an end with an 80-69 loss at Johnson University on Tuesday night.
 
The Bears are now 12-2 on the season, with two six-game winning streaks followed by a single loss. They are 6-2 in the AAC.
 
Johnson improved to 8-3 on the season, 5-2 in league play.
 
The Bears shot 44.8 percent from the field, but the Royals hit 50 percent. UPike was 6-of-19 from the arc, but Johnson was 6-of-10. Pikeville went 11-of-13 from the line, while JU was 16-of-20.
 
Four Bears scoring in double figures, led by junior guard Keian Worrix, who fired in 18 thanks to 3-of-5 shooting from outside. Junior LA Walker had 17 points to go with five rebounds.
 
Junior Bradley Bunch had his fifth double-double of the season, scoring 14 and pulling down 14 rebounds while also leading the team with three assists. Junior guard Keynan Cutlip scored 10 times and had four rebounds.
 
Johnson put five players in double figures, paced by junior forward Mason Lockhart's 18 points to go with eight rebounds. Thanks to three assists, the Atlanta product led the Royals in all three categories.
 
Senior Isaiah Poore, senior Toris Woods and sophomore Dallas Carbaugh flipped in 13 apiece. Carbaugh needed only seven shots to do so while Poore and Woods tried only six.
 
Sophomore Tyler Moore followed with 11.
 
Thanks to Bunch's efforts, the Bears won the rebounding battle 33-32 but turned it over 15 times, while the Royals committed only seven.
 
UPike will rest while taking final exams the remainder of the week and will be back on the court on Monday, Dec. 16 when they host Virginia-Lynchburg. That game has the special start time of 6 p.m. at the Appalachian Wireless Arena.
