MIDWAY, Ky. – Midway University used a 13-3 run down the stretch on Tuesday afternoon to knock off the University of Pikeville 82-75.
The run came just after UPike scored to take what would prove to be its final lead of the game.
Alexis Moore scored on a layup with 4:11 left to put the Bears in front 66-65. A layin by Jacie Chesser with 3:52 on the clock put the Eagles in front by one to begin the deciding stretch of the game.
A'Lyrica Hughes sank two free throws before junior
India Blyth nailed her fifth three-point basket of the game to tie the score at 69 with 2:30 remaining.
Blyth finished with 15 points.
But the Eagles then posted the next nine points, beginning with a three-pointer by Kassidy Daugherty. After Hughes had a pair of layups, Chesser sank two free throws with 42 seconds left to push the lead to 78-69.
Junior
Allie Stone led all scorers with 19 for the Bears. Moore finished with 13 while sophomore
Rachel Bush tossed in 10 to go with four rebounds and three blocked shots.
All five starters scored in double figures for the Eagles, who got 18 from Atlantis White. Hughes and Chesser followed with 15 apiece. Hughes had six steals and both had vie rebounds.
Jermyra Christian had 12 for Midway in addition to a game-high 12 rebounds, and Daugherty finished with 11.
The Bears will return to action on Monday, Dec. 30, when they host Campbellsville University. The game is set for a 2 p.m. tip at the UPike Gym.
