CLEVELAND, Ga. - University of Pikeville wrestling took to the mats against Truett McConnell in a battle of the Bears Wednesday. TMU won the match by a final count of 51-6.
Brandon Didat and TMU's Tate Thomas opened the match in the 125 class. Thomas won the match after winning a 10-0 major decision over Didat. Isaac Hall edged out Ethan Croom in overtime in the 133, and TMU won the 141 match after a forfeit.
In the 149 match, Hayden Canady fell at 1:33 to Elijah Mullins. Truett McConnell took six points after a forfeit in the 157 and then scored six more after Derek Counsel won a 17-2 major decision over Chase Price in the 165.
UPIKE put six points on the board after Randall West won the 174 match after a TMU forfeit. TMU got a quick twelve team points after forfeits in the 184 and 197, leading up to the heavyweight bout.
In the heavyweight 285 class, ReGinald Whyte, who went 3-1 in UPIKE's last outing, took on TMU's Phillip Terrell. Terrell won the heavyweight tilt after pinning Whyte at 3:32.
Thursday's match with TMU was the Bears' last match of the 2024 calendar year. UPIKE wrestling will hit the mats again on January 10th in Montgomery, W.Va., for a match against WVU-Tech.
