PIKEVILLE, Ky. - Men's tennis extended their win streak to five after defeating SCAD-Atlanta 4-3 Sunday afternoon.
Anton Hofman and Martin Lorenzo won 6-4 in the opening doubles match. The Bees tied the doubles score when Ben Chouikha and Ernesto Martinez defeated Juan Diego Alzate and Paulo Castillo. SCAD-Atlanta took the doubles team point after Nicolas Fertonani and Valentino Capararo defeated Timur Chsherbukov and Mateo Vargas 6-4.
SCAD-Atlanta's Mikaeel Woodman defeated Anton Hofman 6-1, 6-4 to put the Bees up 2-0 in the match. Timur Chsherbukov got the Bears back in the match with a 6-1, 6-1win, then Juan Diego Alzate tied the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Nicolas Fertonani. Ernesto Martinez put the Bees up 3-2 in the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Alfonso Robinson. Paulo Castillo knotted the match at 3-3 after a 6-3, 7-6 (4) win over Valentino Capararo. With the match on the line, Mateo Vargas faced off against Krish Karpe. Vargas took the first set 6-1 then clinched the match with a 6-4 victory.
The Bears are 6-1 (3-0 AAC) following Sunday's victory over the Bees. Next up for the Bears is a home match against Columbia College next Friday afternoon at Bob Amos Park.
