Errors prove costly in loss to Campbellsville

PIKEVILLE, Ky. - UPIKE baseball lost its third consecutive game Tuesday, falling 10-4 at home to Campbellsville.

The Tigers got on the board first in this one after a single to left, but their lead did not last long. Francis Subero knotted the score at 1-1 after a two-out, solo home run to right center. The game-tying homer was Subero's first of the season.

A two-run homer in the top of the fourth put Campbellsville back in front. Again, the Bears responded a half inning later. This time it was Noah Helton who belted a fastball over the left field wall to cut the Tigers' lead in half.

Campbellsville added two more in the sixth and led 5-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth. The Bears got another run back, starting with a lead off single by Austin Gurney. Two batters later, Gurney scored after some aggressive baserunning and an errant throw trying to throw out Cam Revolt at first base. Revolt advanced to third but was left stranded.

The Tigers blew the game open one frame later, taking advantage of two UPIKE errors. Campbellsville scored four runs with two outs and led 9-3 heading into the seventh inning stretch.

In the eighth, Tyler Maynard tripled to left then scored after Cam Revolt's third hit of the game. One batter later, Francis Subero bounced into a fielder's choice then advanced to second after a Hunter Ferguson single to left. With two on and two outs, Tyler Freas drew a walk to load the bases. The inning ended after Riley Paulino lined out to second.

Campbellsville scored their tenth run of the afternoon in the top of the ninth after a sacrifice fly to right. The Bears did not score in the bottom of the ninth and the Tigers took this one 10-4

UPIKE falls to 16-9 (9-5 AAC) following the loss to the Tigers. Next up for Bears baseball is a three-game series at Bluefield. Game one will start at 3 p.m. followed by a doubleheader Saturday starting at noon.
