Offense excels in DH sweep

 
BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The University of Pikeville baseball team picked up a couple of league road wins on Sunday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader from Bluefield (Va.) University.
 
The Bears took the opener 13-11 and the nightcap 11-8. Noah Helton homered in both ends, Riley Paulino blasted a home run in the second game after picking up the win in the opener and closer Richtter Castillo got the save in both games.
 
UPike now stands 18-9 on the season and 11-5 in conference play. Bluefield fell to 12-12 overall, 6-6 in the league.
 
The teams will wrap up the three-game series with a single game on Monday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
Bears 13, Rams 11: UPike built a 5-0 lead heading to the bottom of the fifth before the Rams tied the game. The Bears responded with four more in the sixth and three in the eighth. Bluefield scored twice in the seventh, eighth and ninth but couldn't catch up.
 
Cam Revolt, Francis Subero and Noah Brooks drove in three apiece in the win. Revolt's came on a three-run double in the third; Subero hit a three-run home run in the eighth. Brooks had a three-run blast in the fifth.
 
Samuel Torres drove in two with a double and a sacrifice fly. Helton, who had two hits and scored three times, added a solo home run. Tyler Maynard had two hits, scored one and drove won in. Ian Setzer and Tyler Freas added two hits each.
 
Paulino pitched the first five to improve to 6-0 on the season. He allowed five runs, three of which were earned. Isaac Berry followed, throwing 3-2/3, striking out three while allowing eight hits and six runs, four of which were earned.
 
Castillo got the final out with the tying run at the plate for his second save this season.
 
Bears 11, Rams 8: The Bears took a comfortable 8-0 lead by posting seven runs in the second inning and put it away with one in the sixth and two more in the seventh.
 
The seventh-inning tallies came on back-to-back home runs by Paulino and Helton.
 
UPike sent 13 batters to the plate in the second as it scored seven times. Maynard had the big hit, a three-run double to right. Hunter Ferguson, Helton, Austin Gurney and Revolt also delivered runs.
 
Maynard had four hits, drove in four and scored two in the win for the Bears, who pounded out 15 hits. Helton had three hits, scoring twice and driving in two.
 
Subero had three hits, including a double, while Ferguson had two hits and the RBI.
 
Setzer, Paulino and Brooks also had hits.
 
Caleb Morrison picked up the win, improving to 2-1 on the season. He pitched two innings in relieve of Ryan Ratliff, who started and went three.
 
Castillo pitched the final two innings, striking out two.
