PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The University of Pikeville broke out of a tie game with a nine-run fifth inning to complete the weekend sweep of Kentucky Christian University with a 13-6 win on Friday afternoon.

The win pushed the Bears to 15-4 on the season, 8-3 in the AAC. It's their fifth straight win. KCU fell to 9-10 on the season, 1-10 in the league.

The Bears came to bat in the bottom of the fifth tied at 4.

The fifth started innocently enough, as
Ryan Sartin drew a leadoff walk.
Riley Paulino singled and
Noah Helton was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After a pitching change, the tie was broken when
Austin Gurney was hit by a pitch.

Tyler Maynard then doubled off the wall in left to score Paulino and Helton.
Noah Brooks was inserted as a pinch hitter and nailed his third home run of the season to make the score 10-4 and still, nobody was out.

Two outs later the Bears got it going again. This time it started with an infield single by
Tyler Freas. Paulino came up again and tripled into the gap in right center to clear the bases. He scored the ninth run of the inning when Helton reached on an infield single to make it 13-4

The Knights scored one in the top of the first when they strung together three straight hits, with Leo Guevara delivering Cole Ottersburg with a single.

The Bears got it back when
Noah Helton hit his fifth home run of the season, a blast over the left-field fence to score
Ryan Sartin, who reached on a leadoff single, and
Riley Paulino, who was hit by a pitch, to make it 3-1 in the bottom of the first.

UPike added a run in the second when
Ryan Sartin tripled into the gap in left-center to score
Tyler Freas, but the Knights responded in the top of the third when Ottersburg singled and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Leo Guevara, making it 4-2.

The Knights tied the game in the top of the fourth frame. A triple by Justin Legg delivered Noah Waltz, who reached on an infield single. Legg scored on a sacrifice bunt by Aiden Bevan.

After the Bears plated nine, the Knights got one back in the sixth when Legg doubled to score Rosado.

In the eighth, the Knights score the game's final run when Austin Markwell doubled and scored when Legg grounded out.

Starting pitcher
Kameron Brodeur went 7 to improve to 3-2 on the season. He allowed nine hits, striking out two and walking one.
Isaac Berry closed it out.

Starter Alex Rivera, the first of six Knights to pitch in the game, got the decision. He pitched into the fifth.

UPike will be back in action on Tuesday, hosting Georgetown College in a doubleheader that is scheduled to start at noon at Johnnie LeMaster Field.
