Bears bested by Tigers

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - University of Pikeville baseball was defeated 15-5 by Campbellsville University Wednesday evening.  

UPIKE got on the board early, plating three runs in the top of the first. Tyler Maynard got the rally started with a one-out single to left, then got to third one at-bat later when Noah Helton doubled to right. After Helton's double, Austin Gurney was hit by a pitch to load the bases. The Bears got on the board after Francis Subero drew a walk. With two outs and the bases juiced, Hunter Ferguson tacked on two RBIs after reaching on an error. After one, the Bears led 3-0.  

The Tigers responded in the second by plating five runs, to which the Bears reponded with a run of their own in the top of the third. Noah Helton led off the third with a solo home run to left center, his 15th of the season. In the fourth and fifth innings, Campbellsville plated two and four runs, respectively to go up 11-4.  

The Bears got a run back in the seventh, starting with a leadoff single by Noah Helton, his third hit of the game. Austin Gurney followed Helton's single with a single of his own. Gurney and Helton advanced to second and third, respectively, after Noah Brooks drew a walk. UPIKE plated their fifth run of the game when Francis Subero flew out to left, scoring Helton.  

The Tigers added one run in the seventh and three in the bottom of the eighth to close out the game. As a team, the Bears scored five runs on ten hits, led by Noah Helton with three. Riley Paulino and Tyler Maynard also had a pair of hits each. Hunter Ferguson and Francis Subero led the Bears in RBIs with two each as well.  

UPIKE is 27-15 (18-8 AAC) following Wednesday's result. Bears baseball will hit the diamond Friday for a three-game series against Union, their final AAC series of the season.
