WBB -- NAIA -- Stone

Women's Basketball Rick Bentley

Stone named WBCA All-America

The accolades continue to roll in for one member of the University of Pikeville women's basketball team.

The school was informed last week that Allie Stone has been selected to the NAIA All-America team by the WBCA.

"We're thankful that the WBCA recognized the season that Allie was able to put together for us," said Coach Clifton Williams, who wrapped up his eighth season with the Bears. "She is a remarkable athlete who is an even better person and an unbelievable competitor, both on the court and off.

"We're very proud of her and think this is a perfect way to cap off the season."

Stone, a 5-6 sophomore from Olive Hill, was a first-team all-conference selection in the Appalachian Athletics Conference thanks to averaging 20.4 points, 3.0 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game last season.

In addition, Stone was an academic all-conference selection as well.

Stone helped the Bears to a 24-8 record and a coveted spot in the NAIA national tournament.

The Bears entered their first AAC tournament seeded fourth, but thanks to wins over the teams seeded fifth, first and second, won the tournament. They ended it with a double-overtime 85-79 win over Reinhardt in the title game in which Stone scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds, shooting 7-of-8 from the free throw line.

Stone shot 51 percent from the field last season, and hit 42.6 percent from three-point range, which is a new school record. She also connected on 86.2 percent from the free throw line.

Her three-point record wasn't a case of someone shooting the minimum to qualify: The combo guard was 80-of-188 from outside for the season.

After a season in which she scored 652 points, Stone is already 26th on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,067 points through two seasons.

The WBCA is a membership-driven organization, which encompasses more than 3,000 coaches of women's and girls' basketball at all levels of the sport – from scholastic and non-scholastic youth to collegiate to the WNBA.
