WALESKA, Ga. – For the second consecutive week, University of Pikeville's
Jaidy Mejia-Andrade has been named AAC defensive player of the week.

Mejia-Andrade is a 6-1 senior from Barranquilla, Colombia. In three games last week, she had 26 defensive rebounds, 11 blocked shots and three steals.

In addition, she averaged 9.7 points and 10.7 rebounds per game.

Her week began on Monday night when she had 15 rebounds, 13 of them off the defensive glass, blocked five shots and had a steal in a 72-53 win over Spartanburg Methodist (S.C.) College.

She followed that on Wednesday with five defensive rebounds, three blocks and a steal as the Bears closed out the road portion of the schedule with a 71-47 win at Union Commonwealth University.

She also had a career high 18 points and finished with nine rebounds.

On Saturday, Mejia-Andrade had eight defensive rebounds, three blocked shots and another steal.

Mejia-Andrade was the defensive player of the week last week when she had 26 defensive rebounds, 12 blocked shots and two steals as the Bears went 2-1 in three road games.

She will enter this week's conference tournament with an average of 6.4 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. She finished the season with 57 blocks and 30 steals.

In addition to leading the AAC in blocked shots, she finished tied for 21
st in the nation this season.

UPike will enter the tournament with a 15-13 record after going 14-6 in league play. The Bears are seeded fourth in the field and will open the tournament on Thursday afternoon at 1:45 against No. 5 Tennessee Wesleyan University.

The Bears and Bulldogs each won on the other's home court this season. UPike picked up a 73-65 win in Athens on Dec. 13, while TWU won 92-88 at the UPike Gym on Feb. 4.
