MONTREAT, N.C. – The University of Pikeville ran its win streak to six with a 3-1 win over Montreat College on Saturday morning.

UPike is now 14-11 on the season and 11-3 in the league, with all six wins in the current stretch coming against league competition.

Montreat is now 0-15 on the season, all in the AAC.

Sophomore
Cassidy Rivas was the offensive catalyst, posting 17 kills in the win. Sophomore
Olivia Chapman followed with seven, junior
Lanie Hawley six and senior
Alondra Ayende five.

UPike had six service aces, all coming from different players. Playing without junior setter

Grace Clark led the Bears with 15 assists. Junior
Magda Vicencio added 10 while sophomore
Aspen Braaten followed with eight.

Hawley and Rivas led Bear defenders at the net with four block assists each. Three Bears had double digit digs, with sophomore
Ashtyn Filkins and freshman
Christan Howell leading the way with 12. Chapman added 10.

UPike will return to the UPike Gym for the final three home games of the season. It begins on Tuesday night when they host Milligan (Tenn.) University at 6:30 p.m.

Bears 25, Cavs 12: The teams were tied four times early, the last being at 4-4. But then the Bears ripped off six of the next seven points to go up 10-5 to take control. Rivas has two kills while Ayende had a service ace. A late six-point run included two kills each by Rivas and Hawley to put the set away.

Bears 25, Cavs 18: Montreat jumped out to an early 3-1 lead before UPike's first run of the set. It was a quick four-point stretch that featured a Rivas service ace. An 8-1 stretch put the Bears comfortably ahead. Rivas had two more kills while Chapman added a service ace, and a Hawley block made the lead 19-11. The Bears scored four of the last five point to win it, starting with a Chapman kill and ending with one by Rivas.

Cavs 29, Bears 27: UPike scored the first four points en route to a lead early, and was led by Clark. She had a service ace and a kill, and a kill by freshman
Olivia Williamson made the lead 7-2. The Cavs took a brief 16-15 lead before the Bears ran off five straight, getting two kills from Ayende and one from sophomore
Raegan Mullins, putting them up 20-16. Â But the Cavs rallied, scoring the next five to take the lead before closing it out with three straight points to win.

Bears 25, Cavs 13: Montreat led 8-6 early, but the Bears put the fourth set on ice with a 13-1 outburst. It started with an Ayende kill and featured four more from Rivas, including the last two points to put her team on top 19-9. The Bears closed it out with four of the final five points, getting kills from Hawley, Chapman and, for the last point, senior
Gracey Lovgren.
